APM Terminals Poti has signed a memorandum of understanding with Biodiesel Georgia LLC, launching a joint project to reduce CO₂ emissions through the use of biodiesel. The company plans to purchase environmentally friendly fuel from the partner for blending with mineral diesel used in port equipment. As part of the agreement, carbon calculation experts will be involved to assess the reduction in emissions and develop a monitoring methodology in accordance with the GHG protocol. Switching to biodiesel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 85-90% compared to conventional diesel fuel.

The partners will also work out technical and operational conditions for the safe reception, storage and blending of biodiesel at the port. Biodiesel Georgia will provide its expertise and ensure that the fuel quality meets international standards. Christian Roeder, Managing Director of APM Terminals Poti, noted that the project is an important step in implementing the company’s sustainable development strategy and supports the development of renewable energy sources in Georgia.

Biodiesel Georgia, which has been operating on the market for over nine years, produces biofuels in cooperation with leading European partners, fully complying with international environmental standards. The initiative is in line with APM Terminals’ global environmental and innovation goals, while stimulating the growth of local sustainable fuel production.
