On March 4, a trilateral meeting was held in Baku between the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov, the Head of the Georgian Railways David Peradze and the Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Railways Nurlan Sauranbayev. The talks were held as part of the events of the International Association of Legal Entities “Trans-Caspian International Transport Route” (TITR).
The parties discussed measures to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of container cargo from China to Europe and increase the efficiency of international transport corridors. The focus was on the launch of the joint venture Middle Corridor Multimodal LTD, created by Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Georgia. The key role of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, whose throughput capacity has been increased to 5 million tons per year, was also noted. In 2024, 287 container trains from China have already been received, and by the end of the year, this figure is planned to increase to 600.
The participants emphasized the need to accelerate cargo flows through TITR and expand cooperation to enhance the role of the China-Central Asia-Azerbaijan route on the world stage. Expanding the areas of interaction between railway administrations will increase transportation volumes and more effectively use the potential of the Middle Corridor.
