On September 8, Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), part of AZCON Holding, met with an American business delegation in Baku. The company’s strategy for developing international transportation routes was presented to the guests, emphasizing the growth of volumes on the Middle Corridor and the diversification of routes along the East-West and North-South axes.
Key achievements include the modernization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line, which increased its throughput from 1 million to 5 million tons of cargo per year, as well as the launch of a new container terminal in the Chinese port of Xi’an with a capacity of 20,000 TEUs. In the first eight months of 2025 alone, 265 block trains from China arrived in Azerbaijan, significantly exceeding the previous year’s figure. The Port of Baku handled nearly 70,000 containers during the same period, demonstrating a 47% increase.
The head of ADY noted that the integration of the Port of Baku into the company’s structure has already yielded tangible results, transforming it into a comprehensive transport and logistics group. ADY’s priorities include digitalization, decarbonization, and sustainable development. The American delegation expressed appreciation for the information provided and confirmed their interest in cooperation.
