A meeting was held in Baku between the Secretary General of the Permanent Secretariat of the TRACECA Intergovernmental Commission Asset Assavbayev and the new National Secretary of TRACECA in Azerbaijan Fariz Aliyev. The main focus was on Azerbaijan’s participation in ongoing TRACECA projects and prospects for cooperation in the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia international transport corridor.
The key topics of the meeting were the introduction of the CIM/SMGS consignment note to speed up cargo transportation, assessment of checkpoints on the corridor to eliminate bottlenecks, and the implementation of the Action Plan for 2022-2026. They also discussed Azerbaijan’s position on the draft memorandums of cooperation with OTIF and in the field of civil aviation, as well as its readiness to sign the Action Plan of the Trilateral Working Group between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to improve connectivity in the Caspian Sea.
Asavbayev emphasized the importance of coordination and joint work to achieve the goals of TRACECA, and Aliyev assured of his readiness to actively support and participate in projects and initiatives for the development of the transport corridor.
