The Balkan Shipyard in Turkmenistan laid the keel of the first of two dry cargo ships with a deadweight of 6.1 thousand tons, which are being built jointly with the South Korean company Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology (KSIT). The ceremony was attended by representatives of the shipyard and KSIT President Choi En-wook.

The joint construction agreement was signed in September 2023, and in April 2024, KSIT handed over the design documentation to Balkan. This cooperation was a key stage in the introduction of modern Korean technologies at the Turkmen enterprise.

The new technologies are expected to allow the plant to increase production capacity to five vessels per year and raise shipbuilding standards in Turkmenistan. This project will also help strengthen the regional maritime infrastructure.
