Baltic Hub, the largest container terminal in the Baltic Sea, recently launched its fourth RMG crane on July 15th, significantly boosting its annual railway siding capacity to over 800,000 TEUs. Manufactured by Künz of Austria, the new electrified RMG crane is fully operational with advanced features like OCR for automatic container identification, collision avoidance systems, and 11 cameras to aid operators.
This expansion of railway infrastructure is integral to Baltic Hub’s growth strategy, supporting over 600 monthly trains connecting Poland with Central and Eastern Europe, including the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, and Ukraine. These investments not only enhance operational capacity and safety but also contribute to reducing CO2 emissions, offering more sustainable transport solutions.
Looking ahead, Baltic Hub plans to construct a second railway siding to meet anticipated demand, driven by increasing import-export volumes and the forthcoming launch of T3. With projections suggesting railway throughput could reach 1.0 million TEUs by 2027, collaboration with Polish authorities is underway to identify a suitable site for the new terminal, ensuring continued growth and efficiency in cargo handling operations.
