MSC completes acquisition of terminals in the port of Hamburg.

Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC), the world’s largest container carrier, has completed the acquisition of a stake in Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA), the main operator of Hamburg’s port terminals. The deal provides for MSC to control 49.9% of the shares, while 50.1% will remain in the hands of the City of Hamburg.

KTZ loaded a record volume of grain.

JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy recorded a record volume of grain transportation in November 2024, loading more than 1.4 million tons of the new crop. Of these, over one million tons were sent for export, and 350 thousand tons were delivered within Kazakhstan.

Hannibal launches a new intermodal route in Italy.

On December 3, 2024, Hannibal, a subsidiary of Contship Italia Group, will launch a new intermodal service between Melzo railway station (Milan area) and Marcianise-Maddaloni terminal (near Naples). The train will operate twice a week: from Melzo departures are scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from Marcianise on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Rhenus Logistics opens innovative logistics centre in Switzerland.

In January 2025, Rhenus Logistics AG will open a state-of-the-art logistics center in Möchlin (canton Aargau), Switzerland. The new facility will be a major step towards increasing the efficiency and sustainability of cargo handling in the Basel region, the country’s key logistics hub. The center is equipped with 30 P40 Geek+ robots and seven RoboShuttles, which will speed up the processing of 30,000 containers by up to 70%, while running on clean energy.

EU seaport cargo throughput fell by 3.9% in 2023.

In 2023, seaports in the EU handled 3.4 billion tonnes of cargo, down 3.9% from 2022. Coal, crude oil and gas accounted for the largest share of cargo (21%). Other key categories included petroleum products (16.1%), ore and mining products (7.2%), and agricultural and forestry products (6.8%).

PSA Singapore and Evergreen Marine form joint venture.

PSA Singapore (PSA) and Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) have announced a joint venture in Singapore to improve the efficiency of container operations and strengthen their collaboration. DHL and Allegro expand cooperation in the field of e-commerce.

DHL eCommerce and the largest Polish e-commerce platform Allegro have entered into a strategic partnership, integrating DHL delivery into the Allegro Delivery program. Allegro users can now choose convenient delivery options: courier, DHL POP pick-up points or modern DHL BOX 24/7 parcel terminals. This cooperation is aimed at simplifying online shopping and increasing the availability of logistics services for customers.

The development of cargo transportation between China and Azerbaijan was discussed in Baku.

A meeting with the delegation of the international port of Xi’an from China was held at the office of Azerbaijan Railways JSC (ADY). Head of ADY Rovshan Rustamov emphasized the active cooperation between Azerbaijan and China in the framework of transportation along the Middle Corridor. An important milestone was the recent dispatch of the first export railway cargo from Baku to China.
