On January 29, in Tbilisi, BTKI Railways LLC, a joint venture between Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) and Marabda-Kartsakhi Railway LLC, signed a package of agreements with Georgian Railways JSC aimed at fully operationalizing the joint management of transportation on the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars (BTK) railway line.
The documents regulate the use of railway infrastructure on the Marneuli–Akhaltsikhe section, as well as the provision of terminal services at Akhaltsikhe station. It is noted that the new agreements will improve the operational efficiency of the BTK line, a key link in the Middle Corridor, and will create conditions for increasing freight traffic volumes.
ADY previously completed large-scale repair and modernization work on a 184-kilometer section of the BTK in Georgia, which features challenging terrain. As a result, the line’s throughput capacity increased from 1 million to 5 million tons per year. The main goal of the modernization was to increase the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor and transform the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars route into one of its key freight arteries. The joint venture BTKI Railways LLC, established on August 13, 2024, is focused on efficient transportation management, attracting new freight, and strengthening strategic transport links in the region.
