The Territorial Commission of Catalonia has approved the urban development plan for the Intermodal Logistics Terminal (PDU) at the Port of Barcelona, paving the way for the construction of a new southern rail hub. The project is estimated to cost €265 million, of which €26 million will be allocated to creating green spaces. The hub’s infrastructure includes a rolling road terminal and a loading terminal, which will significantly increase the handling of freight moving from road to rail.

The new rail system is expected to reduce road congestion and CO2 emissions: it is estimated that over the past decade, it will avoid more than 1.7 million truck journeys. A total of six terminals are planned, ensuring efficient handling of both maritime and land traffic and strengthening the port’s role as a key logistics hub in the region.

The PDU will create 24 hectares of new public green spaces, forming an ecological network between natural and industrial areas. This project reflects the desire to modernise the Port of Barcelona, taking into account modern environmental requirements and the sustainable development of transport corridors.
