Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev and Minister of Infrastructure of Estonia Vladimir Svet held a working online meeting to discuss prospects for cooperation in the field of port infrastructure. More than 60 representatives of businesses, seaports and exporters of the two countries took part in the video conference.
In July, Greenpeace published a study, “Connection Failed”, analysing existing and potential direct rail and air connections between major European cities. On July 22, HHLA TK Estonia received the first container ship running on raw methanol in the Estonian port of Muuga. The Eco Maestro of X-Press Feeder operates on the Green Finland X-PRESS (GFX) route, starting from Rotterdam, passing through Antwerp, Kotka, Helsinki (Vuosaari) and finally arriving at the port of Muuga, after which it returns to Rotterdam.

Following successful pilot projects in Austria and Slovakia, the initiative will also cover Slovenia from June 2024. The electric truck testing program is part of the company’s sustainability strategy “ROAD (Reducing Our Atmospheric Dependencies)”.
In the first half of 2024, investment in China’s transport sector reached 1.7 trillion yuan (US$234.4 billion). In 2023, this amount was 3.9 trillion yuan (about US$548.7 billion), including 764.5 billion yuan (about US$108 billion) for railway infrastructure, up 7.5% compared with 2022.

Japan will provide economic assistance to Kazakhstan and other Central Asian countries aimed at creating a trade route bypassing Russia. This will be announced by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida during his visit to Kazakhstan, which will take place from August 9 to 12.
JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) is launching a program to increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure. In response to the growing demand for passenger and freight transportation, as well as the increase in transit freight traffic, the company will focus on the modernization of more than 180 railway stations. The program includes the construction of additional sidings, receiving and departure tracks and dispatch ramps, as well as the extension of existing tracks and the restoration of dismantled ones.
CMA CGM and German terminal operator Eurogate have announced the joint development of a new container terminal, Westerweiterung, in the Port of Hamburg. The new terminal will have two berths, 450 and 600 metres long, which will allow it to handle mega container ships.
