The 20th TRACECA and UNECE International Seminar on Trade and Transport Digitalization was held in Baku.

The 20th International Seminar on Capacity Building in Trade and Transport Facilitation was held in the capital of Azerbaijan. It was organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) jointly with the Permanent Secretariat of the IGC TRACECA, with the support of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan. Representatives from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Moldova, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, and Turkmenistan, as well as experts from Eastern European countries and the SPECA region, participated in the event. The central theme of the seminar was the digital transformation of multimodal data and document exchange based on UN/CEFACT standards, including the development of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor.

The Scheldt Tunnel construction yard in Zeebrugge will become a permanent port dock.

In January 2023, construction began on eight elements of a new tunnel under the Scheldt River on the Boudewijn Canal in Zeebrugge. This key infrastructure project completes the Antwerp Ring Road and forms the fourth river crossing, alongside the Kennedy, Waasland, and Liefkenshoek tunnels. For this purpose, the contractor created a dedicated construction yard at the intersection of the Boudewijn Canal and the Verbindingsdok dock – a structure approximately 1 kilometer long and 200 meters wide. At the end of September, the final tunnel element was delivered to Antwerp, after which the construction site fulfilled its primary function.

The Ministry of Development of Ukraine has announced a concession tender for the terminals of the Chornomorsk port.

The Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine has announced the launch of a concession tender for the transfer of the First and Container Terminals at the Chornomorsk Seaport, including the Universal and Grain Marine Terminals. The Ministry itself is the concession grantor, and the concession term is set for 40 years. Interested companies will be able to submit applications for participation in the preliminary selection within 75 days of the official publication of the announcement.

There are plans to build a military terminal for the Dutch Ministry of Defence in the port of Rotterdam.

A new terminal covering approximately 15 hectares is planned for construction in the northwest corner of Maasvlakte 2 in the Port of Rotterdam for the Dutch Ministry of Defence. The facility will be part of the National Defence Space Programme and will be used for the transhipment and transit of military cargo, including equipment and ammunition. The decision to select Maasvlakte 2 as a priority location was made by the Dutch government on December 19 as part of the approval of key sites for the expansion of the country’s defence infrastructure.

Transit transportation by KTZ continues to grow, despite its moderate share in freight turnover.

The volume of transit rail traffic on the network of JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy is demonstrating steady positive dynamics. At the end of 2024, transit amounted to 27.5 million tons, and for the first 11 months of 2025, this figure has already reached 27.9 million tons, exceeding the entire previous year’s total. However, transit remains a relatively small portion of the company’s overall freight turnover.

Construction of the Tvaika-Kundziņsala overpass continues in Riga: the project will be 80% complete by the end of the year.

Construction of the overpass connecting Tvaika Street with Kundziņsala in Riga continues uninterrupted, even during the winter. By the end of this year, approximately 80% of the total work is planned to be completed. The main stages – concreting the overpass and completing key structural elements – are expected to be completed by the end of the year, with full commissioning scheduled for the 2026 construction season.

KTZ Express launches KTZ Air Cargo to develop multimodal transportation.

KTZ Express, a freight operator under the Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ), has registered a new airline, KTZ Air Cargo. The carrier’s authorized capital is 196.6 million tenge, or approximately $380,000. The creation of the airline is aimed at expanding the range of multimodal logistics services that KTZ and its subsidiaries and partners already offer on international routes.

Aviator Airport Alliance will provide ground handling services for Vietnam Airlines flights in Copenhagen.

Aviator Airport Alliance, part of the Avia Solutions Group and providing a full range of aviation services at 15 airports in Northern Europe, has signed a ground handling contract with Vietnam Airlines at Copenhagen Airport. The agreement supports the launch of the first direct flight between Vietnam and Northern Europe, which will begin on December 15, 2025, connecting Copenhagen with Ho Chi Minh City.
