CER Cargo expands presence in Europe.

CER Austria Cargo GmbH was successfully registered in the Austrian Corporate Register as a 100% subsidiary of CER Cargo Holding SE. The next step is to apply for an Austrian railway license with the Austrian Ministry of the Environment, a positive decision is expected by April 2025.

Rail Baltica: Project progress and future plans discussed in Brussels.

On 16 September, the Rail Baltica Working Group of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport and Mobility met in Brussels. The participants discussed the progress and future development of the global Rail Baltica project, reviewing updates from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The focus was on key achievements, current challenges and upcoming milestones, and the commitment of the participating countries to complete the project by 2030, which will significantly change transport mobility in the region and improve freight transport.

Spain to invest €24 billion in rail infrastructure development.

By the end of 2026, Spanish rail operators Adif and Adif AV plan to invest €24.1 billion in infrastructure development. More than half of this amount, €12.1 billion, will be spent on modernizing traditional rail, suburban and freight lines. The main works concern the renewal of signaling, electrification and communication systems, as well as the reconstruction of logistics hubs in key transport areas such as Vicálvaro, Valladolid and Fuente de San Luis.

Kazakhstan and China strengthen cooperation in rail transport.

A meeting of the heads of railways of Kazakhstan and China was held in Xi’an, where strategic cooperation in the field of railway transportation was discussed. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in freight traffic between the two countries, and in 2023, the volume of transportation reached a record 28.3 million tons.

Finnish designers visited the construction site of the Rail Baltica station in Riga.

Finnish road and rail design experts from Sitowise visited Latvia to exchange experiences, including a tour of the Rail Baltica station construction site at Riga Airport (RIX). During the visit, they met with Rail Baltica Airport Project Manager Arnolds Timofejevs and PR Manager Linda Pastare from Eiropas Dzelzceļa līnijas, who spoke about the current stages of the project and its significance for the airport’s development.
