In Klaipėda a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to advance the development of a new European rail line to the city. This memorandum was signed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, LTG Infra, the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority, and the municipalities of Klaipėda city and district. This agreement aims to enhance cooperation in decision-making, focusing on determining the optimal route for the railway line.
After the signing of an intergovernmental agreement in Beijing on the construction of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, Kazakh experts are actively discussing the prospects of the project. Some believe that the new line will not be able to compete with Kazakhstan’s transit routes, but others believe that its appearance will increase competition for transit revenues and have a positive impact on freight traffic.
The plan for the Kaunas-Vilnius section of the Rail Baltica railway line aims to meet the needs of the communities and municipalities affected by the future railway. By analyzing 215 public proposals, the planning team has incorporated 109 suggestions and partially considered 45 others. Adjustments include additional two-level crossings, improved access to land plots, and modifications to the railway line at Rykantai, as noted by Vytis Žalimas, CEO of LTG Infra.
The Senate of Kazakhstan approved three key laws aimed at strengthening transport ties with China. The approved laws include the ratification of an agreement on international road transport between the two countries, as well as two agreements on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
At the XXVII St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, a declaration was signed on the creation of an integrated digital ecosystem “HUB to HUB” for the route China – Kazakhstan – Russia. Experts discussed key issues of coal production and export, global trends in the coal market and supply logistics.
On Friday, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed in Klaipeda for the development of a new European gauge railway line to Klaipeda. The signatories – the heads of the Ministry of Transport and Communications, LTG Infra, the railway infrastructure manager of the Lithuanian Railways (LTG) group, the Klaipeda port authority and the municipalities of the city and region of Klaipeda – agreed to jointly select the optimal route for this line.
Transporeon and ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) are expanding their cooperation, which began in March 2023, to include new routes and improved transport data integration. Transporeon, a subsidiary of Trimble, and RCG, a leading rail logistics operator in Europe, announced the expansion of joint services to new rail corridors.
In May, a new record was set for the volume of rail freight transport between China and Europe. The number of freight trains operating on these routes increased 14% year-on-year to 1,724, according to China Railways Corporation.
DB Cargo is currently conducting intensive trials of its new dual-mode locomotive, following its official unveiling in March 2024. Six locomotives are undergoing rigorous testing in Zwickau and Kreuztal, Germany, to evaluate their performance under real operating conditions before they are deployed.
