Alpha Trains and VIAS to modernise regional trains for the Emscher Express in Germany.

Leasing company Alpha Trains and operator VIAS Rail GmbH (part of the RATH Group) have signed a contract for the lease of 14 five-car Stadler FLIRT1 electric multiple units, which will start running on the Emscher Express (ENE) routes in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia from December 2026. The agreements with the VRR and NWL transport authorities are calculated until the end of 2030.

Kazakhstan is accelerating the development of transport infrastructure: large-scale projects in the automobile, railway and water sectors.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a meeting dedicated to the implementation of key investment projects in the transport sector. According to the Ministry of Transport, in 2025, reconstruction will cover 13 thousand kilometers of roads and 6.1 thousand kilometers of railways. Six airports are also being modernized and two initiatives in the water sector are being implemented.

UZ transported more than 22 million tons of cargo to ports in the first five months of 2025.

In January-May 2025, 22.2 million tons of cargo were transported by rail to Ukrainian seaports. This was reported by Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Transportation Technology and Commercial Work of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia, during the Ukrainian Transport Forum in Odessa. All currently operating ports are located in the Odessa region – these are the ports of “Greater Odessa” and the Danube harbors.

A round table discussion on the potential for interaction between Belgian businesses and the transport and logistics sector of Kazakhstan was held in the port of Antwerp-Bruges. On behalf of KTZ Express, Deputy Director General for Logistics Kapar A.I. took part in the discussion, presenting the company’s strategic vision for the development of routes via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR).

Elron: Growing cargo flow between Kazakhstan and China confirms the effectiveness of bilateral cooperation.

According to the results of the first five months of 2025, the volume of railway transportation between Kazakhstan and China reached 14.2 million tons, which is 11% more than in the same period last year. Exports from Kazakhstan to China amounted to 9 million tons, which is 12% higher than last year. These results were possible due to the well-coordinated interaction between the railway administrations of the two countries and stable demand for export and transit transportation in the direction of China.

Elron has transferred passenger trains to the new platform in Ülemiste – the first stage of the Rail Baltica terminal is complete.

Rail operator Elron has started serving passengers on the new platform at Ülemiste station in Tallinn – the first completed element of the future Linda international terminal, which is being built as part of the Rail Baltica project. The new 230-metre-long and 9.3-metre-wide platform replaces the old infrastructure and already offers passengers more comfortable and modern waiting and boarding conditions.

Kazakhstan is preparing a reform of freight rail transportation.

On behalf of the Administration of the President of Kazakhstan, large-scale reforms in the field of freight rail transportation have begun. The Association of Kazakhstan Freight Rail Carriers, together with the Ministry of Transport and the antimonopoly authority, are developing a set of measures to create conditions for real competition, ensure transparent and stable rules for access to infrastructure.
