The first modern dry port in the region has opened in Tbilisi.

The Tbilisi Dry Port, the first modern railway container terminal in the region, has opened in the capital of Georgia. This infrastructure solution is being implemented in three stages, the first phase has already been completed with investments of $21 million. The current throughput capacity of the terminal is up to 100 thousand containers per year, and after the completion of all stages, it will increase to 200 thousand.

Kazakhstan and Austria strengthen railway cooperation on the sidelines of the Astana Forum.

Kazakh Transport Minister Marat Karabayev held a meeting with Andreas Matte, Chairman of the Board of the Austrian railway company ÖBB, as part of the Astana International Forum. The parties discussed expanding partnership in the field of rail transportation, digitalization of logistics processes, and exchange of experience between national operators of the two countries.

METRANS has expanded its environmentally friendly transport and received new TÜV Nord certificates.

The rail operator METRANS continues to develop green logistics within the HHLA Pure service. In 2025, the company expanded its route network by connecting Istanbul, and all shipments in this direction, as previously on the sections between the ports of Hamburg, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Gdansk, Koper, Rijeka and others, were successfully certified by TÜV Nord according to the TN-CC 020 standard.

Ukrzaliznytsia went into the red: passenger transportation deepened its losses, freight transportation lost momentum.

JSC Ukrzaliznytsia ended 2024 with a net loss of UAH 2.71 billion, although the company’s revenue increased by 11.1% to UAH 102.87 billion. According to the annual report, operating profit from freight transportation amounted to UAH 20.39 billion, which is 2.3% less than in 2023. At the same time, the passenger segment deepened its losses to UAH 18.1 billion (+15.4% y/y), remaining deeply unprofitable.

LTG Group accelerates the implementation of Rail Baltica: construction of the largest bridge in the Baltics has begun.

LTG Group, together with the Lithuanian Ministry of Transport and Communications, is accelerating the construction of the European railway line Rail Baltica. The head of the department, Eugenijus Sabutis, and the group’s CEO, Egidijus Lazauskas, visited construction sites in the Jonava region, where Lithuanian and Italian contractors are working on a 46.3 km-long section. The first columns of the longest railway bridge in the Baltics have already been erected – its height reaches 40 meters, and its length will be 1.51 km. The bridge crosses the Neris River in the Natura 2000 protected natural area, which requires compliance with high environmental standards.

CER Cargo strengthens its international position: new Vectron locomotives ordered from Siemens.

Hungarian company CER Cargo Holding continues to expand its presence on international rail routes and has ordered two Vectron MS electric locomotives from Siemens Mobility, which will join the company’s fleet in December 2026. The new locomotives will be used on cross-border routes along the Danube Corridor and in several Eastern European countries, strengthening the operator’s position in the region.
