Shipping company CLdN has announced a 25% increase in capacity on its Liverpool to Dublin route, thanks to the introduction of larger vessels. These vessels will be able to carry more cargo per voyage, reducing CO₂ emissions per tonne of cargo carried by up to 50%. The new schedule will see 24 return sailings per week between CLdN’s upgraded terminal at Brocklebank Quay in the Port of Liverpool and Dublin Port.

The route plays a key role in the freight traffic between the UK and Ireland, with the company moving more than 200,000 units of cargo each year. According to CLdN’s chief operating officer Gary Walker, the increase in capacity has been made possible by the recent refurbishment of the Liverpool terminal, which now has more than 900 trailer parking spaces, as well as improved cargo handling facilities.

Phil Hall, director of Mersey Ports at Peel Ports Group, said the expansion of the route’s capacity was in line with the port’s overall carbon footprint reduction strategy and strengthens Liverpool’s position as a key trading gateway for the region.
