On 21 January 2025, the Port of Rijeka Authority signed a contract with Kolektor Koling d.o.o. from Slovenia for the construction of a new entry-exit point in the western part of the Rijeka Basin. The cost of the project is 831,328.01 euros including VAT, and the work is planned to be completed in 147 days. The new point will be located at the end of the internal port road connecting the western part of the port and the future Rijeka Gateway container terminal with the state road DC 403.
The project includes the construction of two entry and two exit lanes, pedestrian corridors, as well as the installation of all necessary communications – water supply, sewerage, electricity and fiber optics. The area will be equipped with street lighting, security systems, including video surveillance, barriers, readers and customs fences. The new entry-exit point will be integrated with the existing infrastructure and will provide convenient access via the state road DC 403.
Earlier, on 2 February 2024, a temporary entry-exit point for freight transport was opened in the Rijeka basin. At the same time, the old point at Žabica Square was closed for public use and converted into a service entrance exclusively for emergency and official vehicles.
