In 2025, Ukrzaliznytsia’s container freight volumes totaled 241,582 TEU, a 6% decrease compared to 2024, according to Valeriy Tkachev, Deputy Director of the company’s Commercial Department. He also noted that over the past three months, the gap has gradually narrowed compared to last year’s figures, indicating a partial recovery.
Exports accounted for the majority of container shipments—143,235 TEU, or 59% of the total. Imports accounted for 71,535 TEU (30%), domestic shipments accounted for 26,812 TEU (11%), and transit operations were virtually non-existent in 2025. Grain cargo remains the leading container freight volume, accounting for 26%, despite a significant decrease in its share compared to the previous year.
Ferrous metals also accounted for a significant share of the product mix—46,411 TEU (19%), oil cakes and meals—29,230 TEU (12%), vegetable oil—15,601 TEU (7%), and synthetic resins—12,394 TEU (5%). Export container shipments during the 12 months of 2025 were carried primarily through land border crossings, accounting for 83,755 TEU (58%), while 59,480 TEU, or 42% of the export volume, were transported through seaports.
