From January 2025, traffic on the Luegg Bridge on the A13 motorway in South Tyrol will be restricted due to extensive repairs that will last until 2027. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, causing significant problems for transport between Italy and other European countries. Long delays, blockages and traffic restrictions are expected, which will have a significant impact on supply chains. DB Cargo Full Load Solutions (FLS) offers an effective solution: intermodal transport that combines rail and road transport, offering flexibility, reliability and reducing the environmental impact.
The Brenner Route, one of the most important freight corridors in Europe, will face serious restrictions, which could lead to higher costs and reduced efficiency for road transport. However, DB Cargo FLS offers a sustainable alternative: intermodal routes with multiple daily departures that avoid traffic jams and other traffic obstacles. Customers benefit from reliable and environmentally friendly logistics, which is particularly relevant in the context of infrastructure renewal, with 55% of bridges in Germany requiring replacement or major repairs.
The DB Cargo FLS intermodal network covers key regions and routes, including connections between Germany, Italy, Scandinavia, Turkey and south-eastern Europe. Using rail transport on long sections not only reduces CO₂ emissions, but also reduces transport costs.
