The infrastructure division of DB InfraGO will invest over €4 billion in a major upgrade of the Bavarian railway network in 2026. As part of the program, the company plans to renew 500 kilometers of track and over 200 switches to improve service reliability and reduce disruptions on regional and interregional routes.

The investments include not only repairs but also the expansion of key railway corridors and stations, including in the regions of Werdenfels and Upper Palatinate. The next phase of modernization will affect regional lines and the Munich metropolitan network, where S-Bahn lines S2, S4, and S7 will receive additional service. Upgrades will also affect part of the Allgäu network, improving service quality in the south of the state.

According to DB InfraGO CEO Philipp Nagl, the volume of investments in Bavaria will increase by approximately 10%. He noted that the temporary disruption associated with construction work will be offset by the creation of a more resilient and modern rail system. The project is being financed through the federal Infrastructure and Climate Special Fund, and Bavarian authorities have already supported the plan, emphasizing its importance for the development of regional routes.
