DHL and Google, one of the world’s largest tech giants, have announced a partnership to use the DHL Express GoGreen Plus service with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The initiative will support express deliveries of Google devices in the Devices & Services division around the world, including the Americas, Asia and Europe. It is part of Google’s commitment to supporting decarbonization in air freight.
The idea for the collaboration came about during the DHL Global Sustainable Logistics Summit held in April 2023, where environmentally friendly solutions in logistics were discussed. In June, Google and DHL Express launched a pilot project using SAF, which lasted four months and proved successful. This led to an expansion of the partnership and the introduction of the GoGreen Plus service for future Google operations.
Launching in 2023, DHL Express’ GoGreen Plus service allows customers to reduce their CO2e emissions during delivery by using SAF, which is produced from renewable resources such as used cooking oil and waste. Supported by contracts with BP, Neste and World Energy, GoGreen Plus is part of DHL Group’s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
