DHL Express Spain has announced plans to invest more than €40 million in the construction of a new European aircraft maintenance hangar in Vitoria-Gasteiz, strengthening the role of Spain in the company’s global strategy. The new facility is expected to be operational by mid-2027 and will be the company’s second-largest maintenance hub in Europe after Leipzig, Germany.
The hangar, initially designed to accommodate 50 employees, will handle maintenance work on DHL’s B757 fleet and other aircraft. The complex will also include office space and warehouse areas for storing tools and large aircraft parts such as engines, APUs, landing gear and thrust reversers.
Located west of DHL Express’ existing hub at Vitoria Airport, the new facility will cover more than 19,700 square meters, of which 6,600 square meters will be dedicated to the hangar, 1,605 square meters to external structures and 11,500 square meters to the area in front of the hangar. In line with the DHL Group’s goal to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, the hangar will be carbon neutral and will help significantly reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by reducing the number of flights to other European service hubs.
