DHL Global Forwarding has begun operations at the new aviation terminal in the CargoCity South area of Frankfurt Airport. The 24,500 sq. m complex built by Fraport unites the company’s previously disparate facilities and is capable of handling up to 300,000 tons of air cargo per year.

The facility includes 54 cargo gates, a parking lot for 25 trucks and 185 cars, as well as 3,000 sq. m of office space. A 2 MW solar power plant is being built on the roof, the energy from which will be supplied to the airport’s general network. The complex is undergoing ESG verification and is applying for DGNB gold certification.

Fraport notes that the launch of the warehouse is an important stage in the implementation of the CargoHub Masterplan strategy, the goal of which is to increase cargo flow in Frankfurt by 50% and bring it to 3 million tons per year through space optimization, new projects and digitalization of processes.
