DP World is investing £60 million to expand its Southampton container terminal capacity with four new quay cranes. The cranes will be the largest in Europe and will be able to handle two 40ft containers at a time, significantly speeding up the loading and unloading of ships.
The equipment, which weighs in at over 2,000 tonnes, will arrive at the port from mid-2026. The new cranes are designed to handle the largest container ships with a capacity of up to 24,000 TEU and will last for around 25 years, ensuring the sustainability of DP World Southampton’s logistics infrastructure in the long term.
The investment continues DP World’s growth strategy in the UK, including upgrading its logistics capabilities and expanding its integrated shipping network. The Southampton terminal has already won a productivity award from Ocean Network Express (ONE), confirming the increasing efficiency of DP World’s operations in the UK market.
