Dredging work has been completed in the port of Kuryk in a record short time. Thanks to these measures, the depth of the water area and the approach channel of the port is now from seven to eight meters, which allows for an increase in the passage draft of ships and ensures their full loading. The work was carried out by the general contractor, Jan De Nul Kazakhstan LLP, using the Vesalius dredger, removing more than 990 thousand cubic meters of soil.
The project involved four vessels of Jan De Nul Kazakhstan, Kazakhstani tugs and equipment, as well as local designers and surveyors. Dredging work created more than 50 new jobs and became an important part of the development of the port infrastructure.
These works contribute to the expansion of the terminal capacity of the port of Kuryk and play a key role in the development of the Trans-Caspian international transport route, which supports the growing volume of freight traffic. The port’s design capacity is six million tons per year, of which 4.1 million tons are rail transport and 1.9 million tons are road transport.
