On July 28, 2025, British analytics company Drewry reported a significant increase in the reliability of Gemini Cooperation, an alliance created by Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk. Since its launch in February, the punctuality of its main services has increased from 48-67% to 87-89% in June, which is twice as high as the Ocean Alliance and Premier Alliance on trans-Pacific and Asia-Europe routes.

According to Drewry, the success was ensured by the hub-and-spoke model, in which large ships only call at key hub ports, and delivery to other ports is carried out by feeder vessels. Gemini specifically uses the less crowded Bremerhaven, Rotterdam and Tanger Med, which helps to bypass congestion in Antwerp and some Asian terminals.

Analysts note that control over its own terminal capacities allows the alliance to reduce delays, but the cost-effectiveness of the scheme has not yet been proven. The first profitability results are expected after the publication of Hapag-Lloyd’s quarterly report on August 14, which will cover Gemini’s full operating period for the first time.
