In the first half of 2025, the largest ports in Western Europe showed a decrease in total cargo turnover. In Antwerp-Bruges, volumes decreased by 4.3% to 137.2 million tons, in Rotterdam – by 4.1% to 211 million tons.

Against this background, the container segment is showing growth. In Antwerp, container handling increased by 3.6% to 6.91 million TEU (+3.7%), and in Rotterdam – by 2.7% to 7 million TEU, despite a decrease in volumes by 1%.

Hamburg became the leader in terms of growth rates: in six months, the port handled 4.2 million TEU, which is 9.3% more than a year earlier. Thanks to the growth in container traffic, the port’s total cargo turnover increased by 3.6% and reached 57.8 million tons.
