Starting October 1, German seaports will begin a digital procedure for releasing imported containers through the German Ports IT platform, called Secure Release Order (SRO). The solution, developed by DAKOSY AG and dbh Logistics IT AG, will eliminate the need for traditional PIN code transmission and make the process more secure. The new system is being introduced in stages to reduce risks and give all market participants time to adapt.

The first stage will cover carriers, who will be able to receive containers without PIN codes in Hamburg, Bremerhaven, and Wilhelmshaven. Starting November 2, freight forwarders, importers, and carriers themselves will begin to connect to the system. And starting November 3, mandatory use of SRO will be introduced for importers at selected terminals in Hamburg and Bremerhaven or Wilhelmshaven.

Full implementation of the system across all terminals will begin on November 17 and will be gradual. As noted by the heads of dbh Logistics IT AG and DAKOSY, digitalization of imports is an important step in increasing the reliability and resilience of critical port infrastructure, and a gradual rollout will ensure a level playing field for all participants and a smooth transition to the new procedures.
