HPC Hamburg Port Consulting (HPC) has been appointed as the project coordinator and financial manager for the H2-Derivatives@BalticSeaPorts (H2Deri@BSP) project, funded by the Baltic Sea Region 2021-2027 programme. The project, initiated by the Port of Hamburg Marketing (HHM), will start in March 2025 and run until February 2028. Its objective is to introduce hydrogen derivatives as a marine fuel and optimise their handling in the ports of the Baltic region.

One of the key challenges for ports and terminal operators is the lack of knowledge in the areas of investment, refuelling technologies, berth mapping and regulation of hydrogen derivatives. H2Deri@BSP aims to bridge these gaps through international cooperation. HPC, with its experience in Interreg project management since 1998, will undertake coordination of the work, progress monitoring and financial administration.

The project brings together 15 partners from seven Baltic Sea countries, including ports, energy companies and liquid bulk operators, as well as 23 associated organisations. The initiative will develop pilot projects for the use of hydrogen derivatives and a scalable strategy for a green transition in the maritime industry. The resulting solutions will be disseminated across the EU to accelerate the implementation of green technologies.
