A consortium led by CMA CGM (67%) and the Banque des Territoires (23%) and the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Lyon and Marseille (4% each) has been awarded a 30-year subconcession to manage the Edouard Herriot container terminal at the Port of Lyon. The decision was taken by Compagnie Nationale du Rhône (CNR).
Trucks at the container terminals of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) in Hamburg are now handled entirely digitally thanks to the implementation of the passify app. Following the successful launch at the Altenwerder Terminal (CTA), the transition to this innovative system has now been completed at all HHLA terminals in Hamburg. The app replaces the physical driver card, enabling safer and more efficient process management. Since the beginning of the year, more than 200,000 arrivals have already been processed using passify.
State-owned enterprise AS Operail has sold its entire business, including its subsidiary Operail Repairs OÜ, to the Estonian company AS Tiigi Keskus for 19 million euros. The privatization was prompted by a sharp decline in freight traffic on the railway due to sanctions, as well as changes in the country’s strategy. Infrastructure Minister Vladimir Svet emphasized that freight traffic is not a strategically important task for the state, and the transfer of the business to private investors will allow it to focus on other priorities.

CMA CGM has announced the launch of its new Bora Med Service (BMS), which will commence operations on 23 December 2024. The service will connect Turkey, the Adriatic, Malta and the Eastern Mediterranean. The route will be served by six 2,500 TEU vessels, providing efficient and sustainable shipping links via key ports such as Antalya, Izmir, Malta, Trieste and Alexandria.
A meeting of the working group on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) was held in Tbilisi, where achievements and plans for the future were discussed. Over the 11 months of 2024, 50 thousand containers in twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) were transported along the route, and 328 container trains were organized, of which 304 departed from China. Lithuanian rail freight operator LTG Cargo, part of Lietuvos Gelezinkeliai (LTG), has signed a contract to purchase 200 gondola cars from Ukrainian company TAS Dneprvagonmash. The deal is valued at EUR 12.7 million and is aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the construction materials transportation segment.
