Azerbaijan Railways and Georgian Railway are strengthening cooperation in developing the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line.

In Baku, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) Rovshan Rustamov met with the new CEO of Georgian Railway JSC Lasha Abashidze. The parties discussed strengthening partnership in the development of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, paying particular attention to the modernization of the Georgian section and enhancing the strategic role of the route as a key link in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor).

Hupac will increase the frequency of intermodal transport between Busto Arsizio and Basel.

From 1 September 2025, Hupac will strengthen the intermodal connection between Busto Arsizio (North-West Italy) and Basel (Northern Switzerland) by adding three additional weekly round trips. This will increase the total number of departures to eight per week, significantly increasing the capacity of the route.

KTZ and KTZ Express strengthen Kazakhstan’s position as a key transit hub in Eurasia.

JSC NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and its subsidiary KTZ Express demonstrate steady growth in transit traffic, turning Kazakhstan into one of the central hubs of Eurasian logistics. In 2023, the transit volume reached 27.5 million tons — 33% more than in 2020, and container transit increased to 1.4 million TEU. According to KTZ forecasts, by 2029 this figure could reach 100 million tons, and transit revenues — more than $6 billion. The key driver will be the completion of the Dostyk-Moiynty project, which will double the volume to 55 million tons in 2026. As part of the railway network modernization program, it is planned to build and upgrade 5 thousand km of highways and repair another 11 thousand km of tracks by 2029.

Gdansk and Hamburg strengthen strategic partnership for a sustainable Baltic region.

Despite hundreds of kilometres of distance and different scales of operations, the ports of Gdansk and Hamburg are strengthening their cooperation through experience exchange and joint projects. The recent visit of the Gdansk Port delegation, led by President Dorota Pycz, to Hamburg was another step in developing a partnership whose history dates back to the Middle Ages, when both cities were members of the Hanseatic League. Today, as then, strength lies in unity, and cooperation is aimed at the benefit of the entire Baltic region.

Georgia expands role as transit hub: growth across all routes in first half of 2025.

In the first six months of 2025, cargo turnover through Georgia’s international airports increased by 57.6% and reached about 16,500 tons. At the same time, container transit along the Middle Corridor increased sharply to 9,849 TEU, which is 173% more than in the same period of 2024.

Kazakhstan plans to earn up to 5 trillion tenge annually from transit potential.

Kazakhstan’s Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev said that the use of the country’s advantageous geographical location could bring the budget up to 5 trillion tenge annually. He announced this at a press conference in the government, emphasizing that investments in infrastructure, including the expansion of the Dostyk-Moiynty section, would have a powerful economic effect.

Kazakhstan Railways raised $595 million for the development of the Trans-Kazakhstan corridor.

Kazakhstan’s KTZ railway company has signed a loan agreement with the Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Deutsche Bank for up to 480 million Swiss francs (about $595.5 million). The funds will be used to finance key infrastructure projects along the Trans-Kazakhstan corridor. The deal was organized with the support of the sovereign wealth fund Samruk-Kazyna, which fully owns KTZ.
