The Port of Antwerp-Bruges is testing an autonomous electric shuttle for container shipping.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges, in collaboration with technology partners Akkodis, VDL and Medrepair (part of MedlogSA, a subsidiary of MSC), demonstrated an innovative autonomous electric shuttle for intra-terminal container transportation. The project is being implemented within the framework of the European PIONEERS initiative, funded by the Horizon 2020 program.

Baltic Hub enters the final stretch of expansion of Terminal T3.

The T3 terminal expansion project at the Baltic Hub port in Gdansk has reached an advanced stage: 89% of the construction work has been completed, which confirms that the schedule is strictly adhered to and that new stages are ready to be launched. The operating permit for the second section of the terminal has been received, which already allows limited operational processes to begin on part of the territory.

Rhenus opens state-of-the-art logistics hub in Venlo, focusing on sustainability and innovation.

Rhenus Group has officially opened its high-tech logistics centre in Venlo, the Netherlands, strengthening its position in Europe and setting a new standard in sustainable and efficient logistics. The almost 72,000 m² facility combines warehousing, cross-docking and regional distribution under one roof, providing storage for up to 28,000 pallets and reducing delivery times.

MBS Logistics strengthens its position in Switzerland with the acquisition of Gerhard Wegmüller GmbH.

The Swiss subsidiary of the German MBS Logistics Group has acquired the Zurich-based Gerhard Wegmüller GmbH with retroactive effect from January 1, 2025. The deal aims to strengthen MBS’s position in the express logistics segment, including aviation, aerospace, pharmaceuticals and medical technology.

CER Cargo strengthens its international position: new Vectron locomotives ordered from Siemens.

Hungarian company CER Cargo Holding continues to expand its presence on international rail routes and has ordered two Vectron MS electric locomotives from Siemens Mobility, which will join the company’s fleet in December 2026. The new locomotives will be used on cross-border routes along the Danube Corridor and in several Eastern European countries, strengthening the operator’s position in the region.

Denmark is building the world’s longest underwater rail and road tunnel, the Fehmarn Belt.

The Danish state-owned company Sund & Bælt is implementing one of the largest infrastructure projects in Northern Europe — the Fehmarn Belt underwater tunnel, which will connect the city of Rødby on the island of Lolland with the German Putgarten. When completed in 2029, it will be the longest combined tunnel for cars and trains in the world — 18 kilometers along the bottom of the Baltic Sea. It will become a new high-speed alternative to the ferry service between Denmark and Germany.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has launched Europe’s first fully electric tugboat, Volta 1.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has launched Volta 1, Europe’s first fully electric tug, developed in partnership with Damen Shipyards. The new double-ended RSD tug has a 2,782 MWh battery and can operate for up to 12 hours without recharging, delivering a bollard pull of 70 tonnes – the same as its diesel counterparts. Charging takes just two hours via a 1.5 MW charging station.

SBB Cargo launches new shuttle and closes eight terminals.

SBB Cargo is launching the first shuttle service under the Suisse Cargo Logistics strategy, connecting Dietikon (near Zurich) and Stabio (Ticino). The new route will start operating in 2026 and will be a pilot project to test the demand and efficiency of long-haul intermodal transport across the Alps.

Merko Ehitus will build the Rail Baltica international station in Tallinn.

Rail Baltic Estonia has signed a contract with AS Merko Ehitus Eesti for the construction of the Rail Baltica international passenger terminal in Ülemiste, Tallinn. The architectural design was developed by the world-famous Zaha Hadid Architects, and the contract value is approximately 85 million euros excluding VAT. The new terminal has been named Linda after the heroine of an Estonian epic poem and will become the northern gateway to Europe for the Rail Baltica high-speed line.
