Starting October 1, German seaports will begin a digital procedure for releasing imported containers through the German Ports IT platform, called Secure Release Order (SRO). The solution, developed by DAKOSY AG and dbh Logistics IT AG, will eliminate the need for traditional PIN code transmission and make the process more secure. The new system is being introduced in stages to reduce risks and give all market participants time to adapt.

CLdN announced plans to build a new river terminal for ro-ro vessels at the Port of Liverpool in partnership with Peel Ports Group. The project, a multi-million pound investment in the Irish Sea market, will create a modern berth on the River Mersey adjacent to the company’s current facilities at Brocklebank/Langton Docks. A permit application is expected in the second half of 2026, with construction scheduled to begin in 2028.

Leviahub has acquired GSI Software, a Cádiz-based company specializing in digital supply chain solutions. This strengthens Leviahub’s presence in Spain, where it already operates in Barcelona and Madrid, and adds expertise in customs technology to its portfolio. The deal is part of the company’s international expansion strategy.

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges took a major step toward the future of autonomous transportation by hosting the first Port of the Future – Autonomous Summit. The event showcased innovations in autonomous mobility on land, water, and in the air: from drones and driverless ships to container shuttles and trains. The highlight was a national breakthrough: Einride demonstrated the first fully autonomous truck in Belgium to operate on public roads.

The restructuring separates the company’s core activities into three branches: Leasing, Logistics, and Production.

DB Cargo, the freight division of German Railways (Deutsche Bahn), has agreed to sell its shares in the Spanish operator Transfesa to Boluda Shipping. As a result of the transaction, Boluda plans to become the second-largest freight rail company in Spain after Renfe Mercancías.

DB Cargo has introduced a new Slovakia Shuttle service, which directly connects Žilina (Slovakia) via Ostrava (Czech Republic) with Halle (Germany). The journey time is just one day, making the route particularly convenient for companies handling metal products, pulp, consumer goods, and palletized cargo.

The logistics group Contargo announced the launch of a new intermodal service, Poland France Shuttle (PFS), connecting Poland and France on two routes: Dourges–Krzewie and Dourges–Kutno. The first route will begin with a weekly service between the LDCT terminal in Dourges and the Miratrans Terminal in Krzewie, while the second will provide regular service across central Poland using PCC’s partner network.

Ukraine’s largest private railcar operator, Lemtrans Group, and Rail Trans Investment, have completed the first phase of construction of the Fastiv Container Terminal. The project includes the construction of two new railway lines and a modern container yard designed to store up to 1,350 TEUs. The terminal, covering over 13 hectares, is already capable of handling up to 19,000 TEUs per year, with future capacity expected to increase to 55,000 TEUs.

In July, German exports fell by 0.6% compared to the previous month, primarily due to a 7.9% drop in shipments to the United States due to tariffs. This represents a significant challenge for Europe’s largest economy, where foreign trade plays a key role: in 2024, bilateral trade with the United States was expected to reach €253 billion, making it Germany’s largest trading partner.
