Polish ports increased cargo turnover thanks to increased transshipment in Szczecin and Swinoujscie.

According to the results of the first half of 2025, the three largest seaports in Poland handled 68.5 million tons of cargo, which is 1% more than a year earlier. The main driver of growth was the Szczecin-Świnoujście port complex, where the transshipment of oil cargo increased by 25% – from 3.8 to 4.7 million tons.

The Port of Gdansk strengthens its position with the new SWX service.

At the end of July, the first container vessel Enforcer docked at the Baltic hub of the Port of Gdansk as part of the new Scandinavia West Coast Express (SWX) service connecting Poland with Denmark, Sweden and Lithuania. The weekly route, which includes the ports of Gothenburg, Aarhus, Klaipeda and Gdansk, is designed to improve the efficiency of shipping and become an environmentally friendly alternative to road transport.

The Port of Hamburg has strengthened its position amid the growth of container traffic.

Despite the difficult geopolitical situation and the slowdown in the economy, the Port of Hamburg showed strong growth in the first half of 2025 and managed to regain market share from Western European competitors. Sea freight turnover increased by 3.6% to 57.8 million tonnes, primarily due to a jump in the container segment: 4.2 million TEU were handled (+9.3%), including imports that increased by 11.6% and exports by 6.9%. Thanks to new liner services, the port has strengthened its role in international maritime logistics, especially in the directions of Asia and the Baltic Sea.

LTG Cargo Ukraine changes its business model and will focus on rolling stock leasing.

LTG Cargo’s subsidiary in Ukraine has announced a change in its business model: from September, it will specialize in leasing wagons and locomotives instead of freight forwarding services. LTG Cargo Ukraine already has about 500 Lithuanian wagons at its disposal, which will be effectively used by Ukrainian clients. According to LTG Cargo CEO Egle Šime, railways remain a key supply line for the country during the war, and in the future, the company intends to contribute to the restoration of Ukrainian infrastructure.

HHLA increased revenue and profit in the first half of 2025.

Despite the weak German economy and geopolitical instability, Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) significantly improved its financial performance in January–June 2025. The company’s consolidated revenue increased by 16.3% to €884.5 million, and operating profit (EBIT) by 34.8% to €79.4 million. Net profit after taxes and minority interests amounted to €19.1 million versus €13.2 million a year earlier.

QTerminals and Ukraine confirmed plans to resume the concession project in the port of Olbia.

The Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, LLC “Kyuterminals Olvia” and the Qatari company QTerminals signed a memorandum of cooperation, which secures the parties’ intentions to resume the implementation of the concession project in the specialized seaport of Olvia in the Nikolaev region.

Ukraine and Morocco have opened up new opportunities for road transport.

On June 28, 2025, Ukraine and Morocco signed an agreement on international road transport, which for the first time secured direct transport links between the two countries. The document was concluded during the global transport forum in Turkey and provides for a simplified procedure for cargo and passenger flights, including direct and transit transportation.

Hitachi Rail unveils digital platform to speed up intermodal transport in Germany.

Hitachi Rail, together with MT Logistics and DB Cargo, launched the digital platform InGa-Z, created within the framework of the joint venture Protostellar with the support of the German Federal Ministry of Transport. The solution is part of the “Future of Rail Freight” program and combines a terminal operating system with mobile applications, which makes freight terminal operations faster and easier.

The Port of Klaipeda will become the operator of the berth in Jurbarkas for the development of an inland cargo port.

Klaipeda Port Authority and Jurbarkas District Municipality have signed an agreement under which the Authority will become the operator of one of the berths on the Nemunas. This step paves the way for the development of an inland cargo port in Jurbarkas, which will allow river shipping to be used as a strategically important and environmentally friendly alternative for cargo transportation in Lithuania.
