The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) and the Federation of European Private Port and Terminal Companies (FEPORT) are advocating for the introduction of a mandatory tax exemption for onshore power supply (OPS) as part of the review of the Energy Taxation Directive (ETD).
The Shanghai Institute of Ship Research and Design of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) has received in-principle approval for the construction of a new dual-fuel container ship. This vessel, which will be able to run on liquefied natural gas (LNG), will have a capacity of 27.5 thousand TEU, which is 3 thousand TEU more than the capacity of the world’s largest container ship today.
The Port of Klaipeda and its partners were among the first 40 regions in Europe selected to participate in the EU-funded Pathways2Resilience project. The project aims to increase the resilience of regions to climate change and adapt to new environmental conditions. American company Protio, specializing in the production of green metals and chemicals, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Port of Tallinn on the possibilities of producing environmentally friendly fuels. Protio plans to produce electromethanol, sustainable aviation fuel and possibly e-NG in the territory of the Port of Muuga.
CMA CGM has added the first of four new vessels designed for car transportation to its fleet. The 200-metre vessel, with a width of 38 metres, can carry 7,000 cars on 12 decks and runs on liquefied natural gas (LNG), which is currently considered one of the most environmentally friendly options for maritime transport. LNG allows for a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, as well as harmful substances such as nitrogen and sulphur oxides.
WEC Lines has added Hamburg to its NWC-Portugal service from 23 September. The Dutch shipping company is launching a weekly fast connection from Hamburg to the ports of Leixões and Setúbal in Portugal. Departures from Hamburg will be on Sundays, with arrivals in Leixões on Saturdays and Setúbal on Mondays. The route will be an environmentally friendly alternative to road transport from Germany to Portugal.
Turkey’s first ever floating production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) has arrived. The rig will commence operations in 2026 under a 20-year contract, doubling gas production at the Sakarya field in the Black Sea.

The project participants were JSC KTZ Express, LLC GC Port Lianyungang and JSC NC Aktau Sea Trade Port. This event took place within the framework of the International Silk Road Exhibition.
