From January to August 2024, Ukrainian seaports handled 66.8 million tons of cargo, which is significantly higher than the figures for the same period last year. In 2023, this figure was 37.7 million tons, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA) reported.
At the end of July and beginning of August, the ports of Riga began to receive and load local grain of the new harvest, the terminal management reports. More than 10 ships with rapeseed and 3 bulk carriers with wheat have already been dispatched. This year, Riga is actively receiving grain from both Latvian and Lithuanian farmers, although record export volumes are not expected.

The press conference held at the headquarters of ZMPSiŚ SA discussed plans for the construction of the Deep-Sea Container Terminal in Świnoujście. On August 27, at 14:00 local time, the container ship “Hamburg Express” was successfully delivered by the Hanwha shipyard to Hapag-Lloyd AG in Hamburg. With a capacity of 23,660 TEU, “Hamburg Express” is the seventh vessel of 12 in this class under construction.
During the year of operation of the Black Sea corridor, the port of Yuzhny in Ukraine handled 27.6 million tons of cargo, which is almost three times more than under the Grain Initiative. From September 2023 to August 2024, the port handled 11.7 million tons of agricultural cargo and 15.9 million tons of ore and metal products.
Container traffic at the Port of Hamburg remained stable in the first half of 2024, handling 3.8 million TEU, almost the same as last year. Despite economic challenges and tensions in the Red Sea region, container handling and overall port throughput demonstrated resilience.
The volume of cargo and baggage transportation by sea and coastal transport in Kazakhstan for January-July 2024 reached 1.6 million tons, which is more than twice as much as the same period last year.
