Container turnover of the Black Sea ports of Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine increased by 12% in 2024.

According to Informall BG, in 2024, the volume of loaded containers handled in the Black Sea ports of Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine increased by 12% and exceeded 1 million TEU. The highest growth was recorded in Ukraine – by 78% to 86.7 thousand TEU, while in Romania the growth was 9.5% (to 695.8 thousand TEU), and in Bulgaria – 4.5% (to 233.1 thousand TEU).

The port of Antwerp-Bruges maintains its position in the US market despite trade duties.

The United States has been the second largest foreign trade partner of the port of Antwerp-Bruges for over 20 years. In 2024, the volume of sea freight traffic between the parties reached 28 million tons – about 10% of the port’s total cargo turnover. Of these, 11 million tons were export deliveries to the United States and 17 million tons were imports from the United States. The main share was occupied by container cargo (14.2 million tons), including auto parts, machinery, chemicals, food, pharmaceuticals and plastic. Liquid cargo reached 10.2 million tons, and 282 thousand cars were handled as part of RoRo traffic, of which 206 thousand were for export to the United States.

The ASCO vessel “Khojaly” entered the waters of the Indian Ocean for the first time.

The Khojaly vessel, owned by the Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO), entered the Indian Ocean for the first time since its commissioning. This event became a landmark step in the implementation of the company’s strategy to expand the geography of transportation outside the Caspian Sea.

The Port of Rijeka is strengthening cyber security within the framework of the international CRESPORT project.

The Port of Rijeka Authority has signed a contract with the Croatian IT company CompING d.o.o. for over 112,000 euros for the purchase, installation and integration of equipment and software into the port’s information system. The signing took place within the framework of the CRESPORT pilot project, aimed at increasing the cyber resilience and security of Adriatic ports. Funding is provided by the Interreg Italy-Croatia 2021-2027 program, with 80% of the budget covered by a European grant and the rest by the port.

The La Spezia container terminal has welcomed the first call of the new Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd service from Asia.

La Spezia Container Terminal (LSCT) has become the first Italian port of call on the new AE11/SE2 Asia-Mediterranean route launched by the partnership between Maersk Line and Hapag-Lloyd (Gemini Network). On April 10, the Liberian-flagged MV Maersk Camden arrived at the port, starting the new regular service to China. This is an important step in the development of La Spezia’s role as a key logistics hub in the northern Tyrrhenian Sea.
