ANDRITZ to build green hydrogen plant in Rostock port.

The international technology group ANDRITZ has received an order to design a 100-megawatt green hydrogen plant in the German port of Rostock. The customer is the REPCO consortium, which unites RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien GmbH, RheinEnergie AG and Rostock Port GmbH. The final investment decision is expected in mid-2025, after which ANDRITZ will begin supplying the equipment and constructing the facility. The plant will be one of the first stations connected to the German Hydrogen Core Network and the future European Hydrogen Corridor.

The Port of Liverpool has opened its first deep-water berth in 40 years.

The Port of Liverpool has opened a new deepwater bulk handling berth, the first such facility built in 40 years. It is located at the Alexandra Complex, operated by Peel Ports, and has already received its first vessel, Andesborg. The berth is capable of handling Handymax class vessels, significantly expanding the port’s logistics capabilities.

Stena Line expands fleet with hybrid ferries on Belfast – Heysham route.

China Merchants Jinling Shipyard has launched the second NewMax ferry, Stena Connecta. The hybrid-powered vessel will undergo final fitting-out and outfitting before entering service in January 2026. The first vessel in the series, Stena Futura, was laid down in July 2024 and is expected to enter service in autumn 2025.

Port of Tallinn increased profits and investments in 2024.

According to the preliminary financial results for 2024, the Port of Tallinn’s revenue was EUR 120 million, up 2.5% year-on-year. Adjusted EBITDA increased by 8% to EUR 53 million, while net profit increased by 21% to EUR 19 million. Chairman of the Management Board Valdo Kalm noted that the success was due to the growth in cargo turnover and passenger traffic, as well as investments in the development of port infrastructure.

Hungary has begun construction of the Adria Port terminal in Trieste.

Hungary has begun construction of its own terminal, Adria Port, in the Italian port of Trieste on the Adriatic coast. The new facility will be a key point for the transshipment of Hungarian export cargo and is scheduled to be fully operational in 2028. The first stage of the work will be the construction of a seawall and the creation of a 250-meter-long berthing line, which will later be extended by another 400 meters.

By the beginning of 2025, the installation of the main equipment at the main berth at Baltic Hub was completed, including the installation of STS rail tracks along its entire length. Almost all fenders and mooring bollards were also installed, work was carried out on the placement of life-saving equipment, navigation lights and metal limiters, which ensured the safety and functionality of the terminal.
