Kazakhstan and Tajikistan are strengthening cooperation in the field of railway transportation.

JSC NC KTZ and State Unitary Enterprise Rohi Ohani Tojikiston agreed to expand cooperation in the transport sector. During the working meeting, which was attended by the Director of the Agency for State Material Reserves of Tajikistan Nurmahmad Ahmadzoda and the head of Tajik Railways Komil Mirzoali, measures to increase the volume of freight traffic between the two countries were discussed.

RCG has strengthened its rail connections to southern Germany by adding Ulm to the TransFER route.

The rail operator ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) has expanded its TransFER Salzburg–Augsburg route to include the new destination of Ulm. Three weekly connections are now running between Austria and southern Germany, one of which has been extended to Ulm, strengthening the connection to RCG TransNET’s international logistics network and improving the wagonload service for customers from various industries.

Khorgos station set a record for freight traffic volume in the first quarter of 2025.

In the first quarter of 2025, 2,375 freight trains passed through the Kazakh station of Khorgos, which is 28.5% more than in the same period last year. The volume of transported cargo reached 3.336 million tons, which is 26% more than the figures for the beginning of 2024. This became a record for the first quarter in the history of the station.

Kazakhstan and ALSTOM will sign a contract for the supply of 205 new electric locomotives.

Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Marat Karabayev held talks with representatives of ALSTOM on the modernization of the country’s locomotive fleet. The discussion focused on the renewal of traction rolling stock and the expansion of cooperation with KTZ-Freight Transportation LLC.

Bulemu will supply Bulgaria with 35 electric trains for half a billion euros.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport and Communications has signed the largest railway contract in the last 20 years with the Bulemu consortium — for the supply of 35 brand-new electric trains for the national operator. The total value of the deal exceeds 1 billion leva (around 500 million euros), with last-minute funding provided by grants under the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Regular rail freight services have been launched from Chongqing to Tashkent.

Regular rail freight services have begun between Chongqing, a major metropolis in southwestern China, and Central Asia. The first train carrying a batch of polyester granules crossed the border at Khorgos and headed to Tashkent, covering a distance of 4,700 kilometers in about 12 days.

Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways Rovshan Rustamov met with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu at the Baku International Sea Trade Port. The talks focused on prospects for cooperation in the field of transport and logistics, as well as the development of regional ties.

KTZ increased loading volume by 4.4% in the first quarter of 2025.

According to the results of January-March 2025, the volume of loading on the Kazakhstan Temir Zholy network amounted to 64.2 million tons, which is 4.4% more than in the same period last year. Domestic transportation reached 41 million tons, and exports grew by 12%, amounting to 23.2 million tons.
