Armenia is preparing to restore railway communication with Turkey along the Gyumri-Kars line.

Armenia’s Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure is considering plans to restore the Gyumri-Kars railway line, which was closed in 1993. In November 2024, at the Akhurik-Akyaka border crossing, representatives of Armenia and Turkey discussed technical details of resuming the route and opening the border.

Belgorod-Dnestrovsky port is preparing to launch a transit route to the EU via Moldova and Romania.

By the end of 2025, the Belgorod-Dnistrovsky port plans to begin shipping transit cargo from Asia to the European Union via a new railway route through Moldova and Romania. According to Igor Bilyk, First Deputy Director of the port, the route to the Romanian city of Galati is 320 km long, of which 182 km pass through Ukraine, 129 km through Moldova and 9 km through Romania.

LTG Infra expands Rail Baltica construction in Lithuania: new tender starts on Berčiūnai – Joniškielis section.

LTG Infra, the infrastructure division of the Lithuanian railway group LTG, has announced a new tender for the construction of embankments and engineering structures on the Berčiūnai – Joniškielis section. This 12.4 km long section will be part of the large-scale Rail Baltica project, the goal of which is to build 114 km of high-speed railway in Lithuania by 2025.

LTG Infra has introduced a unique ecoduct on Rail Baltica in Lithuania – animals have already started using it.

The first movement of wild animals through an underground ecoduct has been recorded on the Switzerland–Žeimiai section in Lithuania, where the construction of the Rail Baltica high-speed railway line is nearing completion. According to environmentalists, this is one of the most modern solutions of this type in the country. The facility is located under a viaduct next to a broad-gauge railway and the 144 Jonava–Kėdainiai–Šiaduva highway. LTG Infra, the infrastructure operator of the LTG Group, regularly monitors fauna at construction sites.

Elron to purchase six high-speed electric trains for Rail Baltica.

Estonian national carrier Elron has announced plans to purchase six high-speed electric trains for operation on the new Rail Baltica mainline with a European gauge of 1,435 mm. The trains will use 25 kV AC and are designed for speeds of up to 200 km/h. Each train will be up to 100 meters long and will be able to carry about 200 passengers and will be compatible for operation in dual mode.

China, Germany, the Netherlands and Togo have signed a new UN railway convention – a step towards facilitating freight transport between Europe and Asia.

China, Germany, the Netherlands and Togo have joined the new UN Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Rail, which aims to eliminate legal barriers and competitive disadvantages of rail transport in the Europe-Asia corridor. The document aims to harmonize transportation conditions, which will reduce costs and increase the attractiveness of rail routes for cargo owners.

LTG Group will pay the state 33 million euros in dividends – almost three times more than last year.

The LTG railway group demonstrates sustainable growth and efficiency: in 2024, the company received 499 million euros in revenue (10% more than last year) and a net profit of 37 million euros. Thanks to this, the state will receive 33 million euros in dividends. According to CEO Egidijus Lazauskas, the company has successfully adapted to geopolitical challenges and continues to implement strategic projects and expand into Western markets.
