The ports of Hanko and Rostock have applied for the modernisation of the Baltic Sea route.

On 21 January 2025, Port of Hanko Ltd and ROSTOCK PORT GmbH jointly applied for funding from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to modernise maritime infrastructure within the TEN-T network. The aim of the project is to strengthen the long-standing cooperation between the ports and improve the Baltic Sea route on the Rostock-Hanko line.

Azerbaijan and Iran strengthen cooperation within North-South framework.

Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways CJSC Rovshan Rustamov met with the head of Iran Railways Jabbar Ali Zakeri Sardroudi at a meeting of the Azerbaijan-Iran intergovernmental commission in Tehran. During the talks, the parties discussed the expansion of the cargo terminal in the Iranian city of Astara and the current progress at the facility.

Kazakhstan and Estonia discussed cooperation in transport and logistics.

In Estonia, a meeting was held between the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Altay Kulginov and the Minister of Infrastructure of the Republic of Estonia Vladimir Svet, dedicated to the development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics. The parties discussed the prospects for strengthening ties between the countries and noted mutual interest in new projects.

Ukrferry launched a ferry service between Bulgaria and Georgia.

On January 14, the Ukrainian shipping company Ukrferri opened a regular ferry service on the Varna (Bulgaria) – Batumi (Georgia) route. The first voyage on the line was the ferry Vilnius under the Panama flag, which can simultaneously transport 50 universal railway cars and 50 TIR heavy-duty trucks. After a successful round trip, the ship is planned to be used on a weekly basis.

ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) is strengthening its position in the Western Balkans market by increasing the frequency of rail services between Belgrade and Rijeka to two round trips per week. The move aims to increase the efficiency and flexibility of logistics between Serbia and Croatia.
