Speaking at the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stressed the importance of developing the region’s transit and transport potential. He noted the need to adopt a Comprehensive Strategy for the Development of the Central Asian Transport System, including key projects such as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, the North-South Corridor, and the Belt and Road Initiative.

The cargo turnover of the Port of Helsinki increased by 1.3% in the first half of 2024.

In January-July 2024, the Port of Helsinki increased its cargo turnover by 1.3% compared to the same period last year, reaching 8.2 million tons. The largest increase was demonstrated by the handling of packaged cargo, which rose by 6.9%, amounting to 7.2 million tons, while the handling of bulk cargo decreased by 21.9% to 605.6 thousand tons.

VTG supplies new hopper wagons to Mendip Rail.

On 5 August, the first of the HOA hopper wagons built for VTG by Greenbrier in Poland arrived at Whately station. These new HOA hopper wagons will replace the ageing LTF and O&K JHA models that have been in service with Mendip Rail for almost 35 years. The remainder of the order will be completed and delivered by May 2025.

Central Asian ministers strengthen transport cooperation in Astana.

The transport ministers of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan met in Astana ahead of the VI Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. During the talks, the issues of developing transit corridors, rail and road transport, as well as air traffic, were discussed. Particular attention was paid to strengthening transport connectivity through the construction of new roads and expansion of air traffic.

PSA International has acquired 85% of the shares of the Polish operator Loconi International.

PSA International, through its subsidiary PSA Baltics N.V., has acquired 85% of the shares of the Polish intermodal operator Loconi International S.A. from ATC Cargo S.A.
