Rail Baltica: The largest infrastructure contracts in the country’s history have been signed in Estonia.

The Rail Baltica project has reached an important stage: contracts have been signed for the construction of two key sections of the passenger line in Estonia. The total value of the agreements is €726 million, and taking into account the options for the purchase of strategic materials, it may reach €932 million. Thus, the entire Estonian section of the future high-speed railway between Tallinn and Warsaw is now in the contracting and construction preparation stage.

The work will be carried out by two international consortiums. The first alliance (GRK Suomi Oy, GRK Eesti AS, Merko Ehitus Eesti and others) will be engaged in the superstructure and substructure of the Ülemiste–Pärnu and Tooci–Pärnu sections, for a total of €394 million. The second alliance, led by Bouygues Travaux Publics, will design and build the Pärnu–Ikla section for €332 million. Over the next year, the parties will finalise the design solutions, prepare work schedules and begin active construction.

The head of Rail Baltic Estonia, Anvar Salomets, emphasised that the project is entering a turning point, while Estonian Infrastructure Minister Kuldar Leis called Rail Baltica “a key investment in the country’s security and economy”. The alliance members expressed pride in participating in Estonia’s largest project, which will create a sustainable transport connection with Europe.
