The Port of Amsterdam and the Government of the Canadian Province of Newfoundland and Labrador have signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at developing a transatlantic corridor for green hydrogen supplies from Eastern Canada to Europe. The document sets out the parties’ intentions to promote climate goals, energy security and sustainable economic growth through clean energy trade.
Thanks to its natural conditions – stable winds, fresh water, open territories and ice-free deep-water ports – Newfoundland and Labrador has high potential for large-scale hydrogen production. In turn, the Port of Amsterdam, with the support of the Government of the Netherlands, is actively developing infrastructure for receiving renewable fuels.
The parties agreed to jointly assess trade routes, remove regulatory barriers, attract investment in infrastructure and launch pilot projects. The agreement also supports the Hydrogen to Amsterdam (H2A) initiative and is integrated into the hydrogen strategy of both parties, confirming the key role of the Port of Amsterdam in providing Europe with green energy.
