State-owned Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), part of AZCON Holding, has signed a contract with Chinese manufacturer CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd for the supply of seven AC50 mainline diesel locomotives and spare parts for a total of $26 million. All technical and commercial terms of the deal have already been agreed upon.
The new locomotives are equipped with advanced traction systems, are highly powerful, have an increased fuel tank capacity, and meet UIC Level IIIA environmental standards, allowing them to operate in regions with special emission requirements. The equipment is expected to enhance freight transportation, especially on the key route of the International North-South Transport Corridor.
Amid the growth of transit freight traffic through Azerbaijan, ADY continues to update its fleet, and in the next stage plans to purchase another 14 mainline locomotives, strengthening its position in the international logistics system.
