In June, dredging works aimed at restoring the design depth to 7.7 meters will start in the Aktau seaport. This was announced by the Chairman of the Board of the Aktau International Sea Trade Port Abay Turikpenbayev at the Caspian and Central Asia forum in Baku. Currently, due to the lowering of the Caspian Sea level, tankers cannot be fully loaded – instead of 12 thousand tons, they take about 10 thousand.
The first stage of dredging will ensure stable operation of the port for the next 3-4 years. However, if the water level continues to decrease, the port is ready to proceed to the second and third stages of the project. The entire initiative provides for the implementation of work in three stages.
As Turikpenbayev noted, in 2024, the development of design and estimate documentation for dredging the port water area and the approach channel was completed. This will not only restore the full carrying capacity of ships, but also increase the reliability of logistics chains through the Caspian.
