A.P. Moller – Maersk held a christening ceremony for the new dual-fuel vessel “Adrian Mærsk” at APM Terminals Maasvlakte II in Rotterdam. Stephanie Pullings Hart, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Nestlé, served as the container ship’s godmother. An important partner of Maersk is Nestlé, which has been using the ECO Delivery Ocean product since 2023, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 80% compared to conventional fuels, supporting its ambitions to reduce its carbon footprint.

Dual-fuel vessels like the “Adrian Mærsk” demonstrate the possibilities of the energy transformation of maritime transport. An important step for further development of the technology is the decisions that the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will make in London next month. A successful transition to alternative fuels requires regulatory support as well as active partnerships with companies like Nestlé.
The Adrian Mærsk has a capacity of over 16,000 TEU and will serve the Asia-Mediterranean route. As part of Maersk’s new east-west route, the vessel will help the company achieve its ambitious goal of 90% schedule reliability. The use of biomethanol and emethanol on such vessels helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 65-90% compared to traditional fuels, which is an important step in the decarbonization of shipping.
