Cargo transportation in Lithuania increased by 10.3% in 2024.

In 2024, the Lithuanian transport sector recorded a 10.3% increase in freight traffic compared to the previous year, the State Data Agency reports. Excluding transportation via oil pipelines, the volume of transported freight increased by 11% and amounted to 181.6 million tons.

The main share of transportation was provided by road transport, which handled 75.9% of the total volume. Transportation by tractors increased by 14.5%, and freight turnover reached 137.9 million tons. This indicates an increasing role of road transport in the country’s logistics system.

At the same time, rail transportation showed a decline – the volume of transported freight decreased by 5.8% to 25.7 million tons. This may be due to changes in logistics flows and the reorientation of some freight to other modes of transport.
