At the terminal in Neuss, Contargo officially opened the charging infrastructure for electric trucks. As part of the project, up to 90 charging points with intelligent energy management and battery storage will be installed at 15 sites. This will be the largest private network of charging stations for electric vehicles in Germany. 22 stations with a capacity of 250 kW are already in operation at seven sites, and eight new charging points have been put into operation in Neuss.
The development of its own infrastructure allows Contargo to supply its fleet of 44-ton electric trucks with “green” electricity. The company currently has 57 electric trucks, with another 33 awaiting delivery. Once all 90 stations are in operation, the company will be able to scale up the project and provide charging capacity for subcontractors’ vehicles.
The intelligent energy management system allows the load to be balanced between terminal cranes, offices, refrigerated containers and charging stations. In the future, Contargo plans to additionally use energy generated by cranes and solar panels, as well as store excess electricity in battery systems to minimize operating costs.
