In January 2025, the container throughput of the Port of Shanghai exceeded 5 million TEU, which was the highest monthly figure among all international ports. According to the operator Shanghai International Port Group, this is 11% more than in the same period in 2024, when the port handled 4.5 million TEU.
The Port of Shanghai continues to hold its global leadership. At the end of 2024, it was the first in the world to exceed the 50 million TEU mark, increasing container throughput by 4.9% to 51.5 million TEU. Total cargo throughput for the year amounted to 580.5 million tons, which is 3% higher than the 2023 figure.
The growth in indicators is associated with the expansion of capacities, the modernization of terminals and an increase in ship calls. The successful development of the Port of Shanghai confirms its key role in global container logistics and strengthens China’s position in global trade.
